Reserving the Chapel

All reservations for weddings and blessing ceremonies are made through the Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life (OCRL) at Brown University.

Here we outline details regarding the chapel's capacity, policies that govern its use and the applicable fees, staff who handle reservations, what support Brown is able to provide for these occasions, and what you are obliged to arrange independently.

Please read all the reservation information before proceeding to complete an application. If you have further questions after review, to check availability of the chapel for your ceremony, or to discuss arrangements for a Baptism or Funeral, you may contact the office staff at ocrl@brown.edu.

Please note that the Office of the Chaplains & Religious Life does not provide a wedding coordinator. There is no staff member in charge of meeting you on the day of or facilitating any planning for your wedding. You are simply renting the space as is. In addition, the Office of the Chaplains only makes arrangements with the bride or groom directly, not with wedding planners or other coordinators.

Fees

The wedding reservation fees are listed below and reserves the chapel for one-and-one-half-hours on the day of the rehearsal and for three hours on the day of the service. The fee must be submitted with your application.

Brown University Undergraduate, Graduate and Medical Students$350
Brown University Faculty/Staff/Alumni or Immediate Family$600

Additional fees to keep in mind

It is customary to pay a fee to the officiant. This is determined between you and that individual.

Mark Steinbach, University organist, requires a fee to discuss the music with a couple, play for the wedding rehearsal, and play the actual service. If you use another organist or other musicians, you are responsible for working out those fees.

A Facilities employee can be available during your service to run the handicap-accessible chairlift. The fee for this is included in your reservation fee.

If the chapel is not returned to its original condition after a service, the couple will be charged for any damage or additional Facilities clean-up fees.
